Why Carbon

Why a Carbon Fiber Hood — and What to Look For

A factory steel hood typically weighs 12–15 kg. A carbon fiber hood comes in at 4–6 kg — removing weight from the highest, furthest-forward point of the car, where it helps turn-in and front axle balance the most. Vented designs also move heat out of the engine bay on track cars.

But a hood is also the most visible panel on the car. Weave alignment, clear-coat depth and UV stability decide whether it still looks right after two summers — which is why every exterior hood we ship gets multi-layer automotive clear coat with UV inhibitors as standard.

Customization

What You Can Customize on a Hood

OEM Replacement vs Styled

Stock-look replacement for weight savings, or vented / scoop designs for cooling and stance. Existing molds cover both.

Wet vs Dry Carbon

Wet carbon for street builds and value; prepreg dry carbon for track cars where every kilogram and stiffness matters.

Single or Double-Sided Carbon

Show-ready underside with full carbon both faces, or FRP underside to cut cost on street builds.

Weave & Color

2×2 twill, 1×1 plain, forged carbon, Kevlar color blends — matched across a full kit if you're ordering more than the hood.

Vent & Scoop Options

Functional heat-extraction vents, NACA ducts or scoop styling on styled molds.

Finish

High-gloss or matte/satin clear coat. Gloss shows the weave deepest; matte suits wrapped or stealth cars.

Before You Order

Fitment, Installation & Safety Notes

Installation: carbon hoods bolt to the factory hinges and latch — a direct swap on most models, typically 30–60 minutes with two people. Alignment is done at the hinge slots, same as an OEM panel.

Hood pins: we recommend hood pins for track use and for any vented/styled hood driven at sustained high speed. Street cars at normal speeds run fine on the factory latch.

FAQ

Carbon Fiber Hood Questions

How much lighter is a carbon fiber hood than stock?

A typical OEM steel hood weighs 12–15 kg; our carbon hoods come in at 4–6 kg depending on size and construction. Double-sided dry carbon versions are at the lighter end.

Is it a direct fit, or do I need to modify the car?

Direct fit. Existing-mold hoods use the factory hinges, latch and mounting points. Alignment is adjusted at the hinge slots — no cutting or drilling on the car.

Do I need hood pins?

For street use at normal speeds, the factory latch is sufficient. We recommend hood pins for track cars and any sustained high-speed use.

Which models already have molds?

54 models across 20 brands — BMW, Ford, Volkswagen, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and more. Filter the catalog above, or send us your model and we'll confirm within 12 hours.

How is a hood shipped? Won't it arrive damaged?

Hoods ship in custom wooden-frame or reinforced cartons with edge protection. Batch orders go by sea freight; single urgent pieces can go air. Every piece is inspected and photographed before packing.

What is the MOQ for existing-mold customization?

No strict MOQ on catalog designs — one piece is fine. Best unit cost starts around 20 pcs, and mixed parts (hood + lip + spoiler) count toward the batch.
