A rear spoiler is the easiest carbon fiber part to install — and the easiest to lose on the highway if you rush it. Most of our spoilers mount with 3M VHB tape alone and take under 30 minutes. Our GT wings are a different job entirely: they bolt through the trunk lid on gooseneck uprights, and yes, that means drilling.
As the manufacturer, we test-fit every spoiler on the actual vehicle before it ships. This guide covers both worlds: tape-mounted lip spoilers and ducktails, and bolted GT wings, with the same steps our engineers use.

Step 0: Know Which Design You Have
Lip Spoiler / Ducktail | Tape + Factory Screws | GT Wing (Gooseneck) | |
|---|---|---|---|
Mounting | 3M VHB tape only | Tape + 2 factory screws | Bolts through trunk lid |
Drilling | No | No | Yes — trunk lid |
Time | 20–30 min | 20–30 min | 2–3 hours |
DIY? | Yes | Yes | Experienced DIY or a shop |
Check your package: if it contains gooseneck uprights, sleeve spacers and a drill bit, you have a GT wing — skip to Method B.
Tools & Prep (Both Methods)
Full prep rules — cleaning, test fitting, temperature — are in our general installation guide. The short version: clean, dry-fit, mark, then commit.
Method A: Tape-Mounted Lip Spoilers & Ducktails
This is how most of our spoilers mount, e.g. the BMW F92/F93 M8 rear spoiler: 3M VHB 4910 tape (10 mm) along the full contact edge — no drilling, no screws.
Some designs add 2 factory-position M6×16 screws at the ends (e.g. our Ford Mustang GT wing) — same procedure, plus drive the two screws after taping. Snug, not tight.
Method B: Bolted GT Wings (Gooseneck, Drilling Required)
GT wings — like our G80 M3 / G82 M4 GT wing — carry real downforce loads, so they bolt through the trunk lid on aluminum gooseneck uprights. This installation is irreversible: you will drill holes in the trunk lid.
What’s in the box (typical BOM):
Component | Qty | Hardware | Qty |
|---|---|---|---|
Tail panel (wing blade) | 1 | M8×50 screws | 4 |
Left & right side plates | 2 | M6×25 screws | 14 |
Gooseneck uprights | 2 | M8×24×2 gaskets | 4 |
Gooseneck bases | 2 | M6×12×1.5 gaskets | 14 |
— | — | Sleeve spacers + M6 nuts | 4 + 4 |
— | — | Positioning drill bit (included) | 1 |
The procedure:
Honest advice: the drilling step is where DIY installs go wrong. If you have never drilled a body panel, a body shop charges about an hour of labor for this — cheap insurance on a trunk lid.
Time & Difficulty by Vehicle
Vehicle | Design | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
BMW F92/F93 M8 | Tape only | 20–30 min | Full-edge VHB tape, easy DIY |
Ford Mustang GT | Tape + 2 factory screws | 20–30 min | End screws add security |
BMW G90 M5 | Tape only | 20–30 min | — |
BMW X3M/X5M (roof spoiler) | Tape only | 20–30 min | Watch hatch glass clearance |
BMW G80 M3 / G82 M4 (GT wing) | Bolted, gooseneck | 2–3 hrs | Trunk drilling required |
